I've looked at various guides and tools for adjusting the keyboard backlight brightness of my Asus GGT laptop on Linux. All e. After installing you can do sudo rogauracore black to turn off the backlight. You can also configure the lighting in similar ways to the Windows Aura Core software.

I guess if it were that easy someone would have written an alternative for Windows that fixes the dead LED issues. What would be cool is if someone could write a bootable image that allows you to change the LEDs before any OS starts.
It would be awesome if there were some open source software or documented API instead of relying on closed software that works only on one OS.
I would buy a motherboard with open source software in a heartbeat. The money here is in selling the hardware anyhow. I haven't heard of any open source Aura control but if you do start a project I'd definitely be interested in testing it.

Just set the rgb on windows and reboot on linux? I haven't dual booted this system in ages. I don't even have a working Windows key at this point. Many games are working great on Linux these days that's to Valve and the community. I've never analyzed the RGBness of competing RGB-capable motherboards, but I feel fairly confident that each manufacturer has engineered a different proprietary approach towards the same common objective.
It's hardware-centric for a very specific proprietary motherboard design paradigm, it can't be "pirated" or "stolen" or "exploited" on any non-ROG platform which wires up a bunch of RGB LEDs in any kind of different fashion. I've always disdained proprietary lockouts on software which is utterly useless without owning buying! Let the people have full control over their pretty lights - it can only encourage more people to develop more creative new uses for this otherwise largely useless hardware feature, it'll certainly not negatively impact sales of ROG Aura products or give competing motherboard engineers some sort of secret insight into amazing new ways of wiring up LEDs, lol.
Windows and Windows gaming will not go extinct for a long, long time. But linux and linux gaming has always been slowly glacially gaining traction in a hugely uphill battle.
Imagine how much farther and faster linux gaming would go with a bunch of decent Vulkan games providing the impetus. A free, powerful, configurable, awesome OS vs a costly, bloated, "automated", problematic OS I foresee a day when gamers deliberately weigh the merits of both mainstream game operating systems, and I think that day will come not too long after a 2nd- or 3rd-gen Vulkan descendant can demonstrably hold its own vs Microsoft's DirectX.A reasonable price given the combined feature sets on this motherboard.

The Aura branding covers multiple protocols. It may support additional forms of lighting, including Aura-enabled GPUs and input peripherals, in the future.
While these should be valid across similar systems to mine, I have not tested them, and I make no guarantees. I'm not responsible for your computer blowing up, but I'm happy to help get it working if it's within my purview. Install the latest version of Rustclone this repository, and run cargo build within the directory to produce binaries.
Currently, Borealis only supports setting all LEDs to a given colour. This interface will be extended in future to provide for additional control. As Borealis uses Linux's I2C interface, you will need to ensure that this has been loaded. To do so temporarily, you can use modprobe i2c-dev ; for extended use, consider having the module automatically loaded.
To run Borealis, use cargo run or run the binary built by cargo build. Arguments are a RGB triplet - that is. As previously mentioned, this does not support all Aura products. Supporting these will take additional reverse engineering, which may or may not happen in the future. You may not have the same memory layout as I do, so Borealis may fail to connect to some of the RAM sticks.
Using Aura Sync in Windows may make them visible, but it's not guaranteed. I hope to make this more reliable in future. The patch follows for Linux kernel 4.

Isn't really funny to boot Windows only to make a customization. My request is to make some kind of Aura SDK or documentation, I know Aura uses i2c interface, so shouldn't be so complicated to create. I know some people are currently doing tests under reverse engineering, but risking all their hardware doing it. Don't get me wrong, I know Linux marketshare for games is quite low, but currently your direct competitors with similar technology AKA Razer, already published an API, so, people are making friendly software to manage it.

I mean, that's correct Aura is quite a big universe, but at least starting with VGA, or keyboards I think something is better than nothing. For example, you may know Nvidia does not collaborate too much with Nouveau team open-source Nvidia driverbut they provide technical documentation to them.

The work here demonstrates that a significant portion of the effort is already done and a proof of concept demonstrates that at least parts of Aura can be controlled over the I2C interface.
